Frequently Asked Questions

Please read questions below and if you can not find your answer, please send us your question or call us, we will answer you as soon as possible

I received a phone call or a letter in the mail. Is this real?

In today’s world, you are wise to question the validity of any claim before moving forward. One way to determine if the company or person you’re dealing with is unethical is if they ask you for any money upfront. With a legitimate claim, there is very rarely any reason to require upfront cash to pursue the claim. FAMILY POTENTIAL will never ask you for any upfront money and will advance any out of pocket expenses in establishing your right to the claim . FAMILY POTENTIAL will even retain, an attorney at no cost to you.

Is this a scam?

That’s a very reasonable question. The answer is no. We will never ask you for any of your financial information. We do not need your credit or debit card number; we do not need your bank account information.

We will not ask you for any money upfront. We will only get paid a percentage of the funds we recover only after the funds have been recovered. All the costs associated with working on your case will come out of our portion of the funds recovered. We will be party to a contract with you that will clearly state all of this upfront.

What's next ?

If you have received a letter or an initial call please contact us ASAP. If you are awaiting paperwork, use the time to study our website or contact your claims manager with any questions.

Upon receiving the initial paperwork, review it and if you are ready to move forward with your claim, complete and send back promptly. FAMILY POTENTIAL will complete the claims process from there.

How much does it cost to collect?

It depends on the complexity of the case and the costs that are expected when considering a claim. Probate and court costs are included in our contingency fee. In addition, many other companies only charge upfront for the details of the claim, leaving you to try to raise the money yourself. FAMILY POTENTIAL does not charge upfront, we will not receive anything if the money is not received by you. In addition, we will bear all costs necessary for the timely consideration of the claim.

Do we need any of your financial information?

No we do not. Beware of any company that asks you for your bank account or credit card information.

How long does it take to collect?

There are a number of factors that determine collection time. The complexity of the claim, the laws governing when the money can be released, and how long the claim has been outstanding can all affect processing time. It can be as short as a few weeks or as long as one year or more. Your claims manager will continually update you with the status of your claim as information becomes available. FAMILY POTENTIAL is committed to expediting your claim as soon as administratively possible. This only makes sense; FAMILY POTENTIAL will only be paid upon successful collection.

Is there a way to reduce the waiting time?

The simple answer to this question is no. Depending on whether we’re dealing with a tax sale overage or a mortgage sale overage, we have to work within the County Tax Commissioner’s schedule, or the schedule of the courts or the trustees. We have no control of the timeframe. Obviously, the sooner the process gets started, the sooner we can recover the money.

How does FAMILY POTENTIAL get paid?

We work on a contingency basis. This means that we will not be paid until we return the funds and you receive them. We charge you a percentage of the funds that we recover. The costs, inclusive of filing fees, attorney’s fees, secretarial fees, etc., are covered in our fee and are never passed on to you.

Why wasn't I notified?

There is a conflict of interest in many jurisdictions in which the agency charged with notifying potential claimants of their money stand to keep the money if the claimants remain oblivious and unaware of the claims existence. For this reason, great lengths are usually not taken to find people to notify them of their money.

Why wasn't I notified after foreclosure?

This is a great question, firstly the county sends you a notification to the previous address, which you usually do not have access to, also the staff of people working in the county does not allow processing a huge number of applications and simply cannot cope with work because of this

Are you a law firm?

We are not a law firm, but our team has attorneys who deal with paperwork. All costs, including attorneys' fees, are covered by our fees and are never passed on to you.
